General Questions
Hardwood floor installation in the Clayton and Triangle area typically ranges from $15 to $25 per square foot installed and finished, depending on species, finish system, and subfloor conditions. We provide detailed written estimates with no hidden fees after a free in-home assessment.
Most hardwood floor installation projects take 5 to 10 days from installation through the final finish coat. This includes the installation day, any staining day, and finish coats with curing time between coats. We will give you a specific timeline during your free consultation.
Yes. We offer free in-home estimates for all services throughout Johnston, Wake, and Durham Counties. Izral Daniels handles every consultation personally. Contact us to schedule and we will respond within one business day.
We do not move furniture directly. We coordinate with a trusted third-party moving company on your behalf and handle all scheduling. You do not need to manage it. This keeps your belongings in professional hands and keeps our crew focused on the floor work.
Yes, virtually. We use the Lagler Hummel, Bona PowerDrive, and Lagler Flip sanding systems paired with Festool HEPA vacuums, dust separators, and air scrubbers. We hang plastic where needed to seal off doorways, keep vents open so conditioned air continues to circulate, and run air scrubbers with external filters on your air returns to capture fine dust before it travels through the system. The result is far less disruption than traditional sanding.

Yes. We provide a five-year warranty on our work. The industry standard is one year. Our warranty reflects our confidence in the materials, methods, and standards we apply on every job.
A simple water test helps: put a few drops of water on the floor. If the water beads up, the finish is still intact and recoating may be sufficient. If the water soaks in quickly, the finish is worn through and refinishing is likely needed. Scratches that are only in the finish layer point to recoating. Scratches that have cut into the wood itself require refinishing. We assess this during the free in-home visit.
Yes. We have extensive experience with original heart pine, wide-plank oak, and other old-growth species found in historic Johnston County and Triangle homes. We assess every historic floor individually to determine the right approach before any work begins.
Refinishing and Recoating
Refinishing involves sanding the floor down to bare wood and applying new stain and finish: a full restoration. Recoating adds a fresh topcoat without sanding to bare wood. Recoating is faster and less expensive, but it cannot change the stain color or address damage that has penetrated into the wood. If the finish is worn or dull but the wood itself is in good condition, recoating is often the right call.
Most refinishing projects take 4 to 5 days: two days to sand, half a day to stain (if applicable), and two days for finish coats and curing. We give you a specific timeline during the free assessment.
Light foot traffic is typically safe within 24 hours of the final coat. We recommend socks only for the first 48 to 72 hours, and waiting 7 to 10 days before replacing furniture and rugs to allow the finish to cure fully. We will give you specific instructions based on the finish system used.
Most hardwood floors benefit from a full refinish every 10 to 15 years depending on traffic, pets, and maintenance. Regular recoating every 3 to 5 years can extend the time between full refinishes significantly. We assess your floor during the free visit and give you an honest recommendation.
Yes. Refinishing is the ideal time to change your stain color. We water pop the floor first to open the grain, then apply sample colors directly on your floor so you can see exactly how each stain looks on your specific wood in your specific lighting before we commit to the full floor.
Water popping is the process of applying water to the sanded floor surface before staining. It raises the wood grain slightly, opening the pores for deeper and more even stain absorption. The result is richer color depth and more consistent tone wall to wall. Most contractors skip this step because it adds time. We do it on every floor that receives stain, no exceptions.
Solid hardwood floors can typically be refinished 5 to 8 times over their lifetime depending on the wear layer thickness. Engineered hardwood varies by product. We measure your wear layer during the assessment. If the floor is approaching its sanding limit, our Bona PowerDrive removes less material per pass than a drum sander and can safely refinish floors that other contractors would say cannot be saved.
We offer four collections: the European Collection (penetrating hardwax oil: Rubio Monocoat, Pallmann Magic Oil, Natura One Coat), the Commercial 2K Collection (Bona Traffic HD, the hardest water-based finish available), the Signature Residential Collection (Bona Mega One water-based polyurethane), and the Eco Collection (Bona Domo entry-level water-based). We help you choose the right system for your traffic, lifestyle, and aesthetic during the consultation.
LVP and Laminate
LVP stands for luxury vinyl plank. It is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product designed to replicate the look of hardwood while offering superior water resistance and durability. It is a strong choice for areas where solid hardwood is not practical, such as basements, bathrooms, or homes with heavy moisture concerns.
LVP is 100% waterproof, lower cost per square foot, suitable for below-grade areas, and faster to install. Hardwood is natural wood with unique character, can be sanded and refinished multiple times, adds long-term resale value, and is a lifetime investment when cared for properly. LVP cannot be refinished. The right choice depends on your specific room conditions, budget, and priorities.
In some cases, yes. LVP can often be installed over a sound, flat existing floor if height transitions and door clearances are not a concern. We assess the existing surface during the free in-home estimate to determine if it is a viable substrate.
Yes. LVP's waterproof core handles pet accidents better than hardwood or laminate, and a high wear layer rating provides good scratch resistance for pet nails. For homes with large dogs or very active pets, we can recommend specific products rated for heavy use.
Yes, moisture testing is performed on every job before installation begins. We use the Tramex MEX5 and Delmhorst Total Check meters. Excess moisture in the subfloor is one of the most common causes of LVP failure. We apply a moisture barrier wherever readings require it.
WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) and SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) are the two main LVP core types. WPC has a foamed composite core that is thicker and softer underfoot, with better sound absorption, making it a good fit for above-grade living spaces where comfort and acoustics matter. SPC has a denser, stone-based core that is harder, thinner, and significantly more dimensionally stable under temperature swings. SPC is the better choice for below-grade installs, spaces with radiant heat, or areas that see wide temperature variation. Both are 100% waterproof. The right choice depends on your specific room, subfloor type, and how the space is used. We walk you through it during the free assessment.
Staircase Remodeling
Yes. Carpet-to-hardwood staircase conversions are one of our most requested services. We remove the existing carpet and pad, prepare the stair substructure, and install hardwood treads and risers that match or complement your existing floors.
Most residential staircase remodels are completed in one to two days depending on the number of stairs, whether risers are included, and the scope of any railing work. We give you a specific timeline with the written estimate.
Squeaky stairs are almost always caused by movement between the tread and the riser or stringer. We install treads using construction adhesive, nailing, and blind screwing where the structure allows. That combination eliminates the movement that causes squeaks. We also correct any subframe issues before installing new treads, because a loose stair structure will squeak regardless of how the tread is fastened on top of it.
Yes. We match species, stain color, and finish sheen to your existing floors so the staircase integrates seamlessly. We apply sample stains in your home lighting before committing to the full staircase.
Staircase renovation pricing typically ranges from $2,500 to $8,000 or more depending on the number of stairs, species, riser treatment, and whether railing upgrades are included. We provide a written estimate after the free in-home assessment.
Custom CNC Floor Vents
Flush-mount floor vents sit level with the surrounding floor surface rather than sitting on top of it. They eliminate the raised metal grate of a standard vent cover, creating a continuous floor surface without visual interruption.
Yes. We manufacture vents in any solid hardwood species we work with, as well as LVP to match your specific flooring product. The goal is a vent that is visually indistinguishable from the surrounding floor.
Yes. We can manufacture custom vents to match existing hardwood or LVP floors. We will need to assess your floor and opening dimensions to confirm a match is achievable.
Yes. LVP flush-mount vents include a hidden steel support structure that carries full foot traffic. Hardwood vents do not require steel reinforcement because solid hardwood has the inherent strength to handle foot traffic on its own. Both are built for long-term use in high-traffic areas.
Standard floor vents are stamped metal that sits on top of your floor. Our vents are CNC-machined from real hardwood or LVP material, sit flush with the floor surface, and are manufactured in our Clayton shop. LVP flush-mount vents include a hidden steel support structure. Hardwood vents rely on the natural strength of the wood. We are the only contractor in the Triangle offering this product.
